Stump grinding in Tallahassee
Turn a stump into mulch, below the grass line, so the yard is usable again.
Why grind a stump
- Mow over the area without hitting it
- Replant, sod, or build a patio or shed in the same spot
- Stop new sprouts coming up from the roots
- Remove a tripping hazard and a home for ants and termites
How it works
A stump grinder chews the stump down into chips, usually several inches below ground level. The grindings can be left to fill the hole, spread as mulch, or hauled away and replaced with topsoil if you want to plant grass right away.
Before grinding, the company should have underground utilities marked. In Florida that's a free call to 811 a few days before digging work.
What it costs
Stump grinding averages around $270 a stump nationally, with most jobs between about $130 and $440. Big stumps, hardwoods and hard-to-reach spots cost more; several stumps in one visit usually cost less each. Booking it together with a removal is often cheapest.
