Before clearing starts
Clearing is where local rules matter most. Inside Tallahassee, and in parts of Leon County near wetlands, floodplains and canopy roads, removing trees and vegetation on a site can require an environmental permit. A local company or the county can tell you what applies before any equipment shows up.
Pricing
Clearing is usually quoted by the job after a site visit, based on acreage, how thick the growth is, the size of the trees, and whether stumps and debris are hauled off or mulched in place.
Permits: inside Tallahassee city limits, removing some protected trees needs a City of Tallahassee tree permit. In unincorporated Leon County, trees on developed lots can often be removed without one, but canopy roads, wetlands and other protected zones have extra rules, and a tree a certified arborist documents as a safety hazard can be removed without a permit (Leon County FAQ). A local tree company can tell you what applies to your tree.
